Fireworks have a rich history dating as far back as the Chinese Sui and Tang dynasties of the 7th and 8th centuries. What started out as exploding green bamboo firecrackers to ward away evil spirits has evolved into what is now a colorful and festive display of twinkling lights, fabulous explosions, smoke and sounds.
In the past, people have had to rely on organized public events in order to get the chance to watch these amazing displays. They were expensive, required specialized training, personnel, and large scale organization to carry out. That is no longer the case. Enthusiasts don’t have to spend a lot of money if they know where to look and there are fantastic deals to be found when you purchase your pyrotechnics online.
These dazzling displays have been a traditional form of celebration throughout the world, and with so many types to choose from,it can be a somewhat overwhelming task to decide what’s best for you and your event. From the most basic firecracker to the more outrageous aerial artillery, some people may find the idea of choosing the right firework difficult, so it helps to know a little about what is available.
Classified by where they perform, either on the ground or in the air, there are many different categories of fireworks available to choose from. Rockets are fired and explode in the air, some with a loud whistle, while fountains emit a beautiful shower of sparksand are more suited for children. Mortar shells are launched from a reusable tube, soar through the air and explode with an enormous assortment of light and color, and Roman candles shoot flaming balls with an exploding shower of sparkling lights. There are a variety of novelty items as well that smoke, crawl or speed across the ground, hop about or spin vigorously with showers of sparks.
It is important to note that these products are explosives and can be dangerous if they are not used with caution. Children should never handle them without adult supervision; even sparklers can reach temperatures of more than 1,800 degrees. Always use fireworks outdoors and be sure to have a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case of fire. Finally, make sure to soak your used fireworks in water before disposing of them in a trash can.
